Philosophy

Saint Matthew's Cooperative Preschool is concerned with the developmental growth of children and providing a warm welcoming environment of learning. Our students learn through playful active exploration and interaction with the teacher, parents, other children and materials using hands-on activities in a non-academic atmosphere. We utilize our safe spacious monitored outside playground and garden area with themed toys and guided activities as often as is possible.

Experiences are provided that meet children's needs and stimulate learning in all developmental areas - social & emotional, language & communication, movement & physical development (fine motor skills & gross motor skills) and cognitive(learning, thinking, problem-solving). There is also plenty of activities that encourage and celebrate self expression.

Each child is viewed as a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth and development. The curriculum and adults' interaction are responsive to individual differences in ability and interests. Different levels of ability, development, and learning styles are expected, accepted, and used to design appropriate activities.

Interactions and activities are designed to be fun and to develop children's self-esteem and positive feelings toward learning.

St. Matthew's also provides a unique involvement and learning experience for parents.
